TIM SMITH Photo Selected by World Renowned Jazz Vocalist Kurt Elling

“[Tim’s photo] has a dreamy quality that was very evocative – of adventures and literature and travel and something more than mere romance. Tim’s photo is a painting.”  — Kurt Elling

The photo is of the view of the Ohio River from the offices of Tim Smith Design, and was in answer to Mr. Elling’s travels, where he routinely captures “views from his window.” The photo was  used on a special edition of Kurt's Passion World CD.

Tim and his wife and business partner, Paula, had the distinct honor of meeting and dining with the Grammy winning artist at the 2016 Jazz Education Network conference in January.

Commemorating 100 Years of Design with AIGA

In early 2014, AIGA, the professional association for design, asked a select group of 100 designers to create a poster design that makes a social, political or cultural statement about one year from AIGA’s history. Invitations were limited to AIGA Medalists, Fellows and past and current Presidents. Tim Smith was honored to honor 1928 - the birth year of legendary Swiss type designer Adrian Frutiger, Mickey Mouse (and Tim's mom).

The poster collection was exhibited at the Museum of Craft and Design in San Francisco and a set of postcards (seen here) was also produced to honor the occasion.

Tim Smith to Speak at SEGD National Conference

I am honored to be presenting at the 2013 SEGD Conference "Above the Fog" being held June 6-8 in San Francisco . I will be joined by architect Chris Downey in a moderated discussion entitled "Designing for Others, Designing with Empathy" - part of the conference's Urban Experience sessions.

From the Conference Website:
A moderated discussion with these inspiring creatives will focus on how they have evolved their practices to adapt to life-altering experiences. We’ll hear their perspectives and hope to become more empathetic to others who don’t see the world as we do.
